The Buffalo Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America serves more than 5,100 youth in 18 West Texas counties.
The mission of the Buffalo Trail Council is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

- Ten Commandments Hike – February 6th, 10 – Noon, Midland & Odessa – Put on your uniform and walking shoes and join Scouts and their families for the annual 10 Commandments hike! There are two hikes taking place at the same time, one in Odessa and the other in Midland, choose the one closest to you! In Midland the hike will begin at First Baptist Church and in Odessa it will begin at Redeemer Lutheran Church, both beginning at 10:00 am. This is a free event, but limited edition council patches are available for only $5 each. For more information on the hike and a patch order form, download the flyer for this fun event!
- 11th Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony – February 6th, 2:00 PM, Veteran’s Park – After participating in the 10 Commandment Hike, the Buffalo Trail Council invites you to Veteran’s Park at the CAF for the annual council flag retirement ceremony. This special patriotic event will feature special guests, a meaningful program, and a ceremony that will respectfully retire hundreds of United States and Texas flags. The whole family is invited to attend this free event. A special limited edition council patch is also available for only $5. Download the event flyer for more details and information.
- 100th Anniversary Celebration – February 8th, 6-8 PM, Abell Service Center (BSA Midland Office) – A very special milestone in the history of the Boy Scouts of America awaits you! Join the celebration as the Buffalo Trail Council celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Scouting at the council headquarters on the night of February 8th. Hot Dogs, Scoutmaster Cobbler, a campfire are all a part of the festivities. Not to mention, we will be opening the time capsule that was buried at the office on the 75th Anniversary of Scouting in 1985 and we will be creating a new one on this night as well! See what was inside, add your piece of history, and join the celebration! The event is Free, so bring all of your Scouts and family members! - Council Annual Recognition Banquet – February 27th, 6:00 PM, Obrien Hall, Commemorative Air Force – Join Volunteers from across the Buffalo Trail Council in recognizing our newest Silver Beaver recipients – Mark Hooper and Robbie Sheppard! Also being recognized is the Eagle Class of 2009. Banquet tickets are only $25 if purchased by February 19th and $30 thereafter. - 2010 National Jamboree The Buffalo Trail Council is sending two Troops of Scouts from all over the 18 county area to the 2010 National Scout Jamboree in Ft. AP Hill Virginia. This will be an exciting opportunity to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting, tour the Nation's Capitol, and enjoy an experience that will never be forgotten.
