[Updated 9/24/09]

What is Wood Badge?

Wood Badge is advanced adult leadership training for all adult leaders and volunteers who serve within the Boy Scouts of America. This training is designed to be fun, informative, and helpful for all adult volunteers, Cub leaders, Boy Scout leaders, Varsity leaders, Crew advisors and professional staff. Most participants find that the lessons and leadership skills learned at Wood Badge are not only useful for scouting but are also useful in their professional and personal lives.

Wood Badge for the 21st Century?

The objective of a Wood Badge course is to demonstrate as practically as possible the Aims and Methods of Scouting. Six days in duration, the course is a multifaceted presentation of leadership skills, organizational tools, and participatory activities based on the best of Scouting traditions and the latest in team-development theory. In addition, participants will enjoy the fellowship of learning alongside many other volunteers and professional Scouters, and along the way we will have a great deal of fun. Upon successful completion of all course requirements, each participant will receive a Certificate of Completion, a Wood Badge Tartan Neckerchief, a Leather Woggle and Two Small Wooden Beads to be worn proudly around the neck. Enrollment is limited to the first 48 Scouters to sign up! Attendees may be a Cub leader, Boy Scout leader, Varsity leader, Venture advisor, district volunteer, council volunteer or professional staff. Space is limited, so make you reservation early.

One Week Course Planned for 2010

Wood Badge is completed over 6 days, which has been spread over two weekends in the past. For 2010, the course will just be done in one complete week in the spring (check back for exact dates). The course will be held at the beautiful setting of Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch.

That’s a lot of time!

Depends how you look at it. How much time are you now spending with you scouting unit? Is it time well spent? Would you like to invest a few days that will teach you advanced leadership skills and techniques so you may lead the youth in your unit better. Will this new knowledge help make your scouting job more proficient, and your scouting experience more enjoyable? Are you willing to invest 6 days, plus a few additional hours, to earn advanced leadership skills that will impact you for the rest of your life?

How Much will it Cost?

The total course fee is $225.00. A deposit of $50will hold your place in the course (only 48 participants allowed) and is due at the time you submit your registration. The balance must be paid by September 15, 2009. The course fee covers the cost for food, presentation materials, participant’s hat and activity shirt. Upon completion of all course requirements, the participant will receive their Wood Badge certificate, leather woggle, tartan neckerchief and their two wooden beads on a leather thong.
